I have the honour to report that I have
appointed Mr. C. G. S. Mackie provisionally and subject to His Majesty's pleasure to be temporarily an unofficial
member of the Legislative Council in the place of the
Honourable Sir H. E. Pollock, K.C., who is temporarily
absent from the Colony.

Sir Henry Pollock has left for England on
a visit which is expected to extend over a period of about
eighteen months. He was, as reported in Sir Cecil Clementi's
52826 despatch No.79 of the 10th February, 1928, appointed as the
nominee of the Justices of the Peace and as such his term
will expire on 16th January, 1932. The usual arrangements
were made for the election of his successor, as shown in the
Gazette Notification of which I enclose a copy, but Mr.
Mackie's name was the only nomination received.
